چکیده
Abstract In this investigation, surface modification toughening of partially stabilized zirconia ceramics, by sub-eutectoid solution annealing, has been performed. The Zr 0.918 Mg 0.068 Y 0.014 O 1.925 designated (MZY) was prepared mixing Magnesia Partially Stabilized Zirconia (MZ9) and Yttria Tetragonal (TZ3Y) Polycrystal commercial powders using wet ball milling. mechanical properties microstructure the MZY were investigated. XRD SEM used for phase analysis examination sintered samples’ surfaces. fracture toughness hardness compacts determined Vickers indentation technique. physical compared to those MZ9 ceramics under same conditions. results showed that, addition inhibited exaggerated growth tetragonal precipitates during sintering. a maximum in 12.9 MPa√m upon annealing at 1000 °C 150 h, while lost coherence due their spontaneous massive transformation monoclinic via decomposition reaction.

Analysis of Toughening of Magnesia Partially Stabilized Zirconia, Due to Dilatational Transformation
-An analysis of toughening of magnesia partially stabilized zirconia (Mg-PSZ) due to dilatational transformation is presented in this paper. Transformation toughening of Mg-PSZ is attributed to the stress-induced phase transformation of tetragonal zirconia to monoclinic structure in the neighborhood of a macro-crack tip. A rate (incremental) type constitutive model is developed, using a microme...

A~~act-Semi~uantitative Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) on pure monophasic (Z~*)~.~(YO,.~~,,, was used to determine the chemical composition of the grain boundaries. Grain boundary enrichment with Y was observed with an enrichment factor of about 1.5. The difference in activation energy of the ionic conductivity of the grain boundary compared with the bulk can be explained by the Y segregatio...
متن کاملRadiation Tolerance of Nanocrystalline Ceramics: Insights from Yttria Stabilized Zirconia
Materials for applications in hostile environments, such as nuclear reactors or radioactive waste immobilization, require extremely high resistance to radiation damage, such as resistance to amorphization or volume swelling. Nanocrystalline materials have been reported to present exceptionally high radiation-tolerance to amorphization. In principle, grain boundaries that are prevalent in nanoma...
متن کاملStrengthening and Toughening of Dental Porcelain by the Inclusion of an Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Reinforcing Phase
Dental porcelain composites reinforced and toughened by 20 wt.% tetragonal zirconia (3Y-TZP) were processed by hot pressing at 1000°C. Two types of particles were tested: yttriastabilized zirconia (ZrO2–3%Y2O3) agglomerates and pre-sintered yttria-stabilized zirconia (ZrO2–3%Y2O3) particles. The composites as well as the reinforcing particles were analyzed by the means of optical and Scanning E...

PURPOSE Veneering porcelain might be delaminated from underlying zirconia-based ceramics. The aim of this study was the evaluation of the effect of different surface treatments and type of zirconia (white or colored) on shear bond strength (SBS) of zirconia core and its veneering porcelain. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty zirconia disks (40 white and 40 colored; 10 mm in diameter and 4 mm thick)...
